Brief Description
Through its BINHI Program, EDC undertakes holistic management of the forests and watersheds around its project sites to ensure the protection of the water-based hydro and geothermal reservoirs. Since the launch of the BINHI Program in 2008, EDC has partnered with 88 forest communities to plant more than 10,000 hectares nationwide, making it the largest private sector-led reforestation initiative. EDC has also documented at least 514 total unique species of fauna, composed of 344 species of birds, 39 species of bats, 25 small to medium-sized mammals, 51 species of amphibians, and 55 species of reptiles within its project sites. In 2021, EDC: - completed 2,400 km of foot patrols (with its local partners) - 509 km of drone patrols (with its local partners) - established 570 hectares of new plantations in its project sites in Bacman, Leyte, Negros, Mt. Apo, Pantabangan, and Ilocos Norte - produced a total of 581,000 quality seedlings in the various central and satellite nurseries spread across the project sites
